Connecting remotely to the Students fileserver.

We currently have directions for the following operating systems:

Mac OS 9 - Mac OS X - Windows (all versions), off campus - Windows 98 - Windows 2000

Directions for Mac OS X

  1. From the Go menu, select Connect To Server...

  2. For your personal server space, in the Address field 1, type afp://students.gseis.ucla.edu and click Connect. If you are faculty or staff, replace the word "students" with "faculty" or "staff" -- i.e. staff.gseis.ucla.edu. To connect to the research server replace the word "students" with "research". If you are visiting GSE&IS replace the word "students" with "visitor".

  3. Enter your account name and password and click Connect. This is the same username/password you use when you log in at Moore 3120 or GSE&IS 118.

  4. Select the volume you wish to mount and click OK.

  5. The icon for the fileserver will be mounted on your Desktop. If you connect via a modem, there could be a delay of a minute or so before it appears.

If you need to contact the Educational Technology Unit (ETU), you can do so by visiting Moore Hall Room 3027 or GSE&IS Room 213, calling 825-1911 or by sending an e-mail to etu@gseis.ucla.edu
