Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Where are my personal files stored?

Your personal files are stored in your home directory (on a fileserver located in GSE&IS). If you work in one of the General Use Computer Labs, and log in with your personal account name and password, you will have access to your home directory (home folder). Your files can also be accessed from any computer connected to the Internet. For more information on your Home directory,

Q: Can I add items to the Dock?

Yes. The Dock menu is completely customizable once you log in with your own account and password. To add an item to the Dock, simply drag its icon on top of the Dock. Applications go on the left side, documents and folders go on the right. For more Dock information,

Q: How do I read my email?

The computers in the General Use Labs (Moore 3120 & GSE&IS 118) offer two applications or reading personal email. Microsoft Entourage and Apple's Mail.app are both installed and can be configured to read POP & IMAP mail. IMAP is more advanced and preferred way of accessing your account. Once configured, logging into any computer in either of the General Use Labs will give the ability to read/respond to email as well as download attachments. For instructions on using your email software with Bruin Online, please see Bruin Online help pages or contact their user support at x5-7452 option 1.

You can also access Bruin Online email via the web, but a browser is usually not capable of retrieving email attachments.

Q: Should I "log out" when I'm done?

Absolutely! Whenever you're finished working on a lab computer, you must log out or the next person to sit at your computer will have access to all of your personal files.

To Log Out, select the command from the Apple Menu.
