Using the GSE&IS Computer Labs
The GSE&IS computer labs are located in 3120 Moore Hall and 118 GSE&IS. GSE&IS
students who have a lab account can use the labs. ( (External)
Apply for a Lab Account Online
) The labs are not
available when classes are scheduled. You may view the schedule by clicking the schedules link to
the left.
Logging in
-
Enter your username and password.
-
The first time you log in, your password will be the random password generated by ETU.
-
You will not be allowed access when a lab is scheduled to be used by a class.
-
You cannot use your username to log into more than one computer at a time.
Changing your password
You may change your password once you have logged into the computer. To do this:

Go to the
Special
menu.
-
Select the
Change Password
item.
-
Type in your new password. When doing so, please note the following:
-
Passwords may not be longer than eight characters.
-
Passwords are case sensitive, that is
IceCream
is different than
iCeCrEaM
.

Logging out
When you have finished using the machine, you should log out. To do this:

Go to the
Finder
and pull down the
Special
menu.

The last entry will read something like
Log out: Joe Bruin
.

Select this entry from the menu and the log in dialog will be displayed for the next user.
Automatic log outs
If a machine is left unused, it will automatically log itself off after a short period of time.
This means that if somebody goes to lunch and leaves their machine logged on, it will log out and
be free for others to use.
Locating your personal files
When you have logged in you will need to locate your personal files.

They are located on the
Home Server
.

All user folders are within an account type folder (Faculty, Students, Staff, Research).

You can save up to 5MB of data in your folder on the server.

Please Note:
Do not save your files on the local hard drive (the one in the
computer you're working at) as they will be deleted periodically.
